Ny postdoc: Jacobus Andreas Swartz

Jacobus Andreas Swartz joined the group of Hans Otto Uldall Fynbo on 1 March 2016 as a postdoctoral researcher.

Jacobus Andreas Swartz joined the group of Hans Otto Uldall Fynbo on 1 March 2016 as a postdoctoral researcher. Cobus will focus his research on the structure of nuclei which are light and exotic, or of astrophysical relevance. This research will be performed mainly at our Van der Graaf accelerator, as well as at ISOLDE-CERN, iThemba LABS and other international facilities. He was previously a postdoc at KU Leuven under the supervision of Riccardo Raabe, working on the development of a scintillator array for an active target which could function in a high magnetic field. In December 2013, Cobus earned his PhD at the University of Stellenbosch, where he employed a magnetic spectrometer to investigate alpha-clustering and isobaric analogue states at high excitation energies in the 20Ne nucleus.
