Postdoc in theoretical quantum control and machine learning 972068


 The Department of Physics and Astronomy, Aarhus University, invites applications for a postdoc position in theoretical quantum control physics. The successful applicant will be part of a research group of Prof. Jacob F. Sherson at Aarhus University (http://phys.au.dk/qmmg/) and will interact with both theorists and experimentalists.

We are looking for a motivated candidate interested in doing theoretical quantum control using optimal control as well as machine learning techniques with the fields of: quantum gate optimization, NMR control, spin models, and quantum many-body physics of ultra-cold atoms in optical lattices.
In addition, the candidate will be able to participate in the efforts to explore novel forms of artificial intelligence by incorporating the large scale behavioral human search patterns identified in the gamified citizen science part of the project (www.scienceathome.org).

The starting date is as soon as possible and the duration of the employment will be one year.

Applicants should have an excellent track record (relative to their current career stage) and a solid knowledge within quantum physics. Experience within the above mentioned research areas is an advantage. A PhD degree or equivalent in physics or a closely related field is required. Applicants, who do not currently hold such a degree, can apply if they expect to obtain the degree before the starting date of the position.

Application procedure
Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.

Formalities and salary range

Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
